Installing Avisynth & plugins.

In order to convert mpeg-2 files (including VOB files) to blu-ray compatible AVC files, we'll need a reliable, accurate, and transparent mpeg-2 decoder that will work as a source for any encoders. Avisynth with the DGMPGDec and decomb plugins fits the bill.

Downloads:

Install Avisynth

Once you've downloaded all three, install avisynth by double-clicking on the downloaded installer. You'll see the license:

Click on 'I agree', and the 'Choose Components' dialog will appear. Change the optional components to include the three under 'Select Association' and then click 'Next'.

Next we get to the 'Install Location' dialog. Unless you really need to, leave the install location as the default, as we'll be assuming it when we install the plugins.

Click on 'Install', and in a short while you should get the final setup dialog:

Click on 'Finish', and the wizard will close.

Install the plugins:

Extract the two plugins archives to your preferred location, and copy DGDecode.dll (from dgmpgdec) and Decomb.dll (from decomb) into the 'C:\Program Files\AviSynth 2.5\plugins' directory. It should look like similar to this when you're done (sizes and dates may have changed depending on the latest version):

You may also want to drag the DGIndex.exe executable you just extracted to your start menu so its easier to find.

That's it, you've installed Avisynth and the necessary plugins!
